Regular Events

As part of the service to members, PMI SAC holds regularly scheduled presentations. These events are for the entire PM community of Southern Alberta, and are open to the public with a discount for members. Advance registration is required for all PMI SAC events. PMI SAC welcomes suggestions for speakers and topics. PMI SAC also welcomes Sponsors all events.

PMI SAC regular events are designed to promote networking and regular contact between colleagues in the Project Management community. PMI SAC events also help members keep up with presentations on hot PM topics of the day. Finally, regular events provide a way for Southern Alberta members to earn PDU’s regularly outside of normal work hours with two different format options. Regular events include:

Dinner Meetings provide opportunities to meet and network with other project management professionals and to learn more about project management best practices and case studies. These after-work meetings are two to three hours in length and held at banquet facilities convenient to downtown Calgary. Dinner Meetings are typically held the last Thursday of each month from September to May (excluding December).

Lunch and Learn Sessions provide members with another opportunity to remain current with the latest project management topics in a shorter, lunchtime, downtown-based format. Lunch and Learn Sessions presentations are usually focused on a single project management topic or knowledge area. These events have a less regular schedule, but are generally held four times annually, held on a bi-monthly basis, from September to May. Look for Lunch and Learn Sessions to happen in the second week of the month.

Special Events

In addition, PMI-SAC also holds and sponsors special events that the Programs Committee believes are of significant benefit to the Southern Alberta project management community. These are also open to the public. Suggestions, speakers, and Sponsors are welcome. Special events include:

  • Symposia
  • Major professional development events
  • Specially scheduled seminars and workshops

A Symposium or a major professional development event is held once every two to three years. In these events, many seminars, workshops, and presentations are clustered together across multiple days. The focus of these events is on providing members with an opportunity to take in a variety of viewpoints in a key theme of project management. These events also allow members to earn many PDU’s in a condensed block, without leaving Southern Alberta.

As opportunity permits, PMI-SAC also makes available to its members seminars and workshops designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of project managers.
